Referrals & introducers

Know a business that deserves better?

Most of our best clients came from somebody vouching for us. Sending someone our way takes about ten seconds — we've written the message for you.

The ten-second version

Send them this. You're not handing over anyone's details and we're not contacting anyone who hasn't asked — they get in touch if they want to.

Your message — edit it if you like Thought of you — I use Buzz Accounting and they're genuinely different to the once-a-year accountant thing. Worth a look if you're not happy with yours: https://buzzaccounting.co.uk/?via=referral

Not sure what to say? The line that works best is the specific one. “They sorted my VAT mess in a week” beats “they're good” every time — people act on detail, not endorsement.

Who we're usually the right answer for

Businesses worth sending our way

  • Owners who only hear from their accountant once a year
  • Anyone just told their fee is going up with no explanation
  • Businesses about to hire, incorporate, or register for VAT
  • Sole traders and landlords caught by Making Tax Digital
  • Anyone trading across the Irish Sea or the border

Where we'd say no

Worth knowing, so you don't spend goodwill on a bad fit:

  • Statutory audit — we'd refer you on
  • Large groups with complex consolidation
  • Republic of Ireland tax filings, which need a firm registered there
  • Anyone wanting the cheapest possible number, not the right one

What the business you refer actually gets

So you know what you're sending them into.

A straight answerA proper conversation about their situation, and an honest verdict on whether we're right for them.
The switch handledWe write for professional clearance and records, and take over the HMRC authorisation. They don't have to make the awkward call.
A fixed fee up frontThey know what it costs before they commit. No hourly billing, no surprises.
No pressureIf we're not the right fit we tell them, and that's the end of it.

For solicitors, IFAs, brokers and bookkeepers

You have clients who need an accountant and you'd rather not hand them to someone who'll embarrass you. What we'd commit to:

  1. A named person, not a switchboard. You get someone's direct line, and they know your name.
  2. Contact within one working day, and you're told the outcome either way.
  3. Your client stays your client. We don't prospect your book, and we'll say so in writing.
  4. Work referred back. Audit, NI legal work, specialist customs, mortgages and protection — we refer out constantly and would rather it went to someone we know.
  5. Terms in writing before anything starts, both directions.
On rewards: we'd rather agree it with you than announce a number. Some want a payment, some want it against their own fees, some would rather we gave it to a charity they care about. Say which below and we'll confirm it in writing.

Common questions

Questions people ask before referring someone

What happens after I refer someone?

We contact them within one working day, have a normal conversation about what they need, and tell them honestly whether we're the right fit. If we're not, we say so — we're not going to spend your goodwill on a hard sell. You get told either way, so you're never left wondering what happened to someone you vouched for.

Is there a reward?

Yes, and we'd rather agree it with you than dictate it. Some people want a thank-you payment, some want it knocked off their own fees, and some would rather we donated to something they care about. Tell us which and we'll confirm it in writing before anything happens.

Do I have to hand over their details?

No — and the message option above exists precisely so you don't have to. You send it, they decide whether to get in touch, and nobody's contact details change hands without them knowing. Use the form only if you'd rather we made the approach and you're comfortable passing their details on.

What if they don't sign up?

Nothing happens and nobody chases you. Not every introduction lands, and a referral scheme that makes you feel awkward about the ones that don't isn't worth running.

I'm a solicitor / IFA / broker — can we set up something ongoing?

That's the arrangement we'd most like to have. A standing introducer relationship works far better than one-off referrals, because we learn what your clients actually need and you learn what we're genuinely good at. We'll put terms in writing so both sides know where they stand, and we'll be equally clear about the work we'd refer back to you.

Do you refer work out as well?

Regularly. Audit, Northern Ireland legal work, specialist customs, and anything where a specialist would do a better job than us — we'd rather make the introduction than stretch. If you do one of those things well, we'd like to know you.
