The fee also covers the day-to-day finance work, done every week by the Buzz finance team.

Finance Director

From £2,000+ VAT a month

A plan for the year, a cash flow forecast, a KPI dashboard and a quarterly board meeting.

Annual one-page plan

Your business model, the year’s objectives and your team’s priorities, agreed with you and written on one page. The forecast and the board meetings are measured against it.

Cash flow forecast

Profit and loss, balance sheet, cash and valuation forecast for at least the next 12 months, ready for a lender or investor, so you see early when the business is off track.

KPI dashboard

Your most important numbers in one place, updated regularly. It includes non-financial measures, such as enquiries or orders, that show what is coming.

Quarterly board meeting

A meeting each quarter to review the results, take decisions and check that the actions agreed last time were done.

Your finance team, included

Weekly bookkeeping in Xero, monthly payroll and expenses, VAT returns, a monthly board pack, customer invoicing and chasing, supplier payments and cash monitoring.

Questions about a part-time finance director

What is a part-time finance director?

An experienced finance director who works on your business each month instead of as a full-time employee. They write the annual plan with you, keep a 12-month cash flow forecast and a KPI dashboard up to date, and run a quarterly board meeting.

Who will our finance director be?

Peter Allen, Buzz’s co-founder and Financial Director.

Is that the same as a fractional FD or a fractional CFO?

For most small and medium-sized businesses, yes. CFO is the title more often used in investor-backed and technology businesses.

What does the finance director service include?

An annual one-page plan, a cash flow forecast, a KPI dashboard and a quarterly board meeting. It also includes the day-to-day finance work: weekly bookkeeping in Xero, payroll, employee expenses, VAT returns, a monthly board pack, customer invoicing, supplier payments and cash monitoring.

How is this different from Business Pulse?

Business Pulse adds a budget, a cash flow forecast, management accounts and a regular review meeting to your accounting package, and you or your bookkeeper keep doing the day-to-day work. The finance director service includes the day-to-day work as well.

Can you help us raise finance or sell the business?

We prepare the forecast, the board pack and the records a lender, investor or buyer asks for, and come to the meetings. Buzz is not authorised by the FCA, so a recommendation of a particular lender or financial product is referred to an authorised firm.
