Some firms file once a year, and others keep the books monthly and explain the numbers. Ask what you will hear from them in July.
- 3Whose software is it, and what happens if you leave?
The software may hold data you own, belong to the firm, or be a platform the service is built around. Each affects how easily you can move firm.
- 4Where does the fee come from?
The fee may be a published package, a percentage of turnover or a quote after a meeting. Check that you see it before you commit, and whether questions cost extra.
- 5What is there beyond compliance?
Some firms also offer management accounts, forecasting, advisory, coaching, legal support and funding. Check which are available for when the business needs them.
