Five questions that separate accountants more than price does
- 1Who does the work, and who do you talk to?
A named accountant with a team behind them, a rotating support desk, or the owner of a local franchise. Each is a different experience of the same filing.
- 2What happens between year ends?
Some firms file once a year and wait. Others keep the books monthly and tell you what the numbers mean. Ask what you will hear from them in, say, July.
- 3Whose software is it, and what happens if you leave?
Software you own the data in, software the firm owns, or a platform the service is built around. All work; they are not the same when you want to move.
- 4Where does the fee come from?
A published package, a percentage of turnover, a quote after a meeting. What matters is whether you saw it before you committed, and whether questions cost extra.
- 5What is there beyond compliance?
Management accounts, forecasting, advisory, coaching, legal, funding. Not every business needs them now; it helps to know whether they exist when you do.

Worth knowing
All four firms, Buzz included, offer a fixed monthly fee, a route to a named accountant and a way to switch from wherever you are now. Any of them will file your accounts correctly. The differences are in what happens in the months between, who you speak to, whose software you are in, and what is available when the business needs more than filing. That is what the comparison pages concentrate on.
